Mango Festival of Trinidad & Tobago, the flagship event of the Network of Women Producers, is fast becoming the most awaited family type event of the year, carnival look out.
The Mango Festival is supported by the Ministry of Food Production, Land and Marine Affairs, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) the University of the West Indies and The Tourism Development Company (TDC).
This is the fourth annual year of the Mango Festival, mango, the Hindu Vedas refers to it as the fruit of the Gods, is celebrated under the theme of "Celebration of the Diversity of the Utility of the Mango"
Although the wet weather affected the mango crop last year, many people came to enjoy the ambiance of an event that has proven to be educational and entertaining in preference to other events on that day. A day of fun, education, community, celebrates the king of fruits. The event includes activities for all age groups, story telling, games such as smell, taste, and tell, mango eating competitions, the best mango chow, best display, and best innovative product made from either the fruit or tree.
There will be the sale of culinary delights, pastries, cakes, jellies, candied fruit all the main ingredient being mangoes. One can find not only food products, but also spar products such as soaps, body scrubs, handmade papers and many other surprises created from the mango fruit and tree.
This celebration of the diversity of the mango includes a mango market, exibitions of proper care of seedlings, budding and grafting techniques, and information on the use of the plant as it is used in ceremonies by religions, for example it is used for decorations at Hindu marriage and religious ceremonies.
The date of this year's Mango Festival is June 27 - July 1. All updates will be posted at a later date.
